Pet First Aid Kit

Essential Items for a Pet First Aid Kit

Our pets are like family members, and for that reason, we want to keep them safe and healthy. This comes down to regular exercise, good nutrition, and lots of love. However, even if you take care of all the basics, there is a chance your pet could become injured. If this happens, it’s important to be prepared with a pet first-aid kit that includes the following items:

  • Pet First-Aid Book
  • Veterinarian Phone Numbers
  • Pet Vaccination Paperwork
  • Nylon Leash
  • Muzzle
  • Pet Carrier
  • Self-Cling Bandage
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Gauze Pads and Rolls
  • Emergency Blanket
  • Antiseptic
  • Cotton Balls
  • Ice Pack
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Disposable Gloves
  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Rectal Thermometer
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Saline
  • Antibiotic Ointment
  • Benadryl
  • Eyedropper or Syringe
  • Tongue Depressors

By starting out with a human first-aid kit, you’ll have many of the essentials already in place. Then, you can simply add to and replace items to create a complete pet kit. If injuries are minor, these supplies should hold your pet over until you can get to the vet. If your pet is more seriously injured though, don’t attempt to treat them on your own. Contact your vet or an emergency animal hospital immediately and get them admitted.

Once your kit is stocked, keep it in a place that is easy to access but out of reach of children and pets. If you plan to travel with your pet, be sure to bring it along. You might even want to have a separate one for your car so you don’t have to worry about transferring it every time you go somewhere.
